Through the imagery of a vast, overwhelming forest encapsulating a lone, small human form, "Lady Godiva" looks at ideas of the insignificance of humanity in relation to larger, more abstract concepts. As the woman in the painting decays, disrupting the peaceful environment of the forest and turning it into something more morbid, this represents how the forest has "eaten" her - and she will soon return to the earth. In the end it is always dust to dust, ashes to ashes.
