A NOTE ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Mars, also known as [Grace Lim], is a designer, illustrator and painter - one who reflects upon issues such as gender, sexuality and its inherent interactions with society. The objects and practices that they therefore design (or illustrate) is their attempt at addressing aspects of the global community that they disagree with. Through this, they hope to expand their world view to allow for a more overall vision of the world's broad horizons.

In the consideration of personal design, Mars’ process largely involves a term that they created for a project - the liminal thought process - in which narratives or concepts are created and let go in equal frequency. By being placed in a state of “liminality”, objects can be considered from a different perspective, which allows them to be flexible in how and why design can be approached. This is a mindset which must be developed and curated with the passage of time - so that it will grow alongside the inevitable growth of an artist.

It is therefore safe to say that their strengths lie in conceptualisation, world-building and narrative-driven aspects, as they are fascinated by the intricate interactions between individual and object, whether it be virtual or physical. Hence, good risk analysis, multitasking and having an adaptive - or chameleon - mindset is what Mars feels to be key traits in a successful individual, and are traits that must be constantly improved upon. Experienced in Adobe Suite, illustration, graphic design and layout, as well as marketing design and social media management.

To end off, game design, especially the act of designing characters, their backgrounds, their storylines and illustration, has always been of great interest to Mars. As they have matured as both a person and a designer, they are immersed by the world of games in particular, both in form of engine - the way it runs physically - and as a consumer.
